Suzie Horan is a highly acclaimed jeweller and silversmith, creating distinctive gold and silver pieces from her workshop on the Welsh coast. Her work, inspired by the natural beauty of ammonite fossils, nautilus shells, waves, and tides, is meticulously designed and crafted by hand.
Her formal training began over 20 years ago in Sheffield, a city renowned for its silversmithing and cutlery. She has continued her training in both the USA and Italy, and has exhibited her work across the UK and in Washington D.C.
Since 2006, her signature rippled work has earned her numerous prestigious accolades. These include a Goldsmiths Company Precious Metal Bursary Award, and Travel Awards from the Armourers and Brasiers Company and the Worshipful Company of Cutlers in 2006. She was named British Silver Week Young Designer of the Year in 2008 and received Goldsmiths Craftsmanship and Design Awards in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
In 2008, Horan won the Gold Medal for Craft and Design at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, leading to a commission to create the Eisteddfod Crown in 2010. For her significant contributions to the arts in Wales, she was honoured by the Gorsedd of Bards. These are considered among the most prestigious awards, commissions, and honours in Wales as well as being valued across the world.
Her highly regarded work is held in several permanent collections, including a sterling silver urchin vessel in the Sheffield Assay Office Collection and a lustre silver engraved bowl in Sheffield Millennium Galleries.
Her work has attracted extensive media attention, being featured in publications such as the Financial Times, The Guardian, Goldsmith magazine, Benchpeg, Crafts magazine, Evening Standard, Cardiff Life, Welsh Living, and Golwg.
Beyond her creative work, Suzie has served as a Judge for Welsh Artist of the Year and a Dynamo Role Model for the Welsh Government.
