Brooker believes that as humans we need beauty, and this ethos is epitomised in her distinctive, elegant and contemporary paintings on aluminium panels and her wire sculptures.
Her work reflects her fascination with the way a metal surface reflects light through transparent colour - a fascination that began over 20 years ago.
Encountering Jason Martin's 'Crespo' at the Lisson Gallery in London, she was captivated by its translucent colour and light reflection leading her to abandon her original medium of choice, oil paint, and embrace aluminium, despite initial challenges in working with this new medium.
Her earlier works explored the immediate appeal of saturated, jewel-like colours but more recently, she has explored the effects of subtly layering graphite and ‘veils’ of paint, to utilise the surface in new ways.
Brooker's considerable body of work now includes experiments with paper, where she combines colour patterns and shapes with her drawings, lino cuts, and screen prints, which are then cut and torn to form unique compositions.
Brooker's art has been exhibited globally in cities such as London, Stuttgart, Amsterdam, New York, Moscow, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.
