Justine Allison is a highly acclaimed potter who constantly seeks to push the boundaries of her craft.
Her work reflects her mastery of material and form, creating delicate porcelain pieces that draw the eye with quiet understatement. It plays with the simplicity and beauty of the clay - incorporating pattern, texture and glaze to create subtle, unique variations.
Working on the boundary of functional and decorative objects, her decorative work is featured here, showcasing her ability to create additional interest to a geometrical form with linear decoration.
Her choice of soft and muted colours contrasts with the strength of line, accentuating their effect to create a beautiful series of sculptural vessels which perfectly illustrate her fascination with surface as well as structural design.
Designed to work individually or in small collections to create further interest and contrast, this current body of work shows her developing interest with groups of vessels. Different heights and angles within the groups generate dynamic relationships which shift and change, placement creating additional rhythm and motion to the sense of movement inherent in her work.
The many connections between shape, form and surface draw the viewer in, encouraging them to look into and around the groups, each one displaying its own unique dialogue and character.
Marked by the attention to detail and precision of a master potter, Justine presents a body of work that has now been exhibited nationally and internationally.
